Strabisumus is what it's called...
Last year about this time Mia's right eye started straying- looking off in another direction instead of focusing on what she was looking at. So weird to look at her with her eyes going both directions. Ger and I would clap in front of her eyes trying to make her blink it away! I took her in to a great pediatric eye Dr right away and they have been monitoring it over the last year. Well it got much worse over the last few months and they officially diagnosed her with Strabisumus... It got so bad in fact Mia started seeing double at times and would get really bad headaches and her eyes would get so tired. Strabismus is a condition that just gets worse and vision is lost in the eye eventually- bah! So last Wednesday Mia had a little surgery at Phoenix Children's Hospital by a Pediatric Eye Surgeon. He is great. He shortened the muscle in her right eye... and actually when he was operating said the muscle was twice the size as it was supposed to be! She had a very sore, dry, bloodshot eye for a few days and by the weekend was doing great. (thanks to everyone who emailed her, called, came by, sent a card/letter, brought a treat- that all helped! And wow Indi! That pillow pet saved the day!)
So this was Mia today! (Yes it was freezing here- ha! Not compared to everywhere else but you know, just below 50... brrrr!) The eye dr checked her all out and her vision is perfect and her eyes are already tracking perfectly together. HURRAY! So exciting. A lot of times the brain takes a while to adjust to the new muscle length but the Dr says since we caught it so quickly he was amazed at how well she has already adjusted. So anyways, there's a peek into our little corner of the world today! So blessed to have modern medicine and good Drs!

So glad to hear she is recovering well. So cute to see her all dressed in her fur-lined coat and tall boots (and of course the funky shades!!). Love you Mia!
I've been wondering how you she was doing. Give her our love!
